Staring At The Wall
The Red Leslies formed in 2015, sparked by the members’ shared love of Art, Classic Records, and Iconic songwriters like Buddy Holly, Lou Reed, and Lennon/McCartney. After three years of performing and building a loyal fanbase in Southern California, they are ready to release their debut album, In White. Staring At The Wall will be the first single off the album.
Staring At The Wall is a guitar driven dive into minimalism, conveyed with a large sound. It is introduced starkly - staccato dots of distortion stab above a deep, raw drum beat. Faint hip-hop textures are nodded at, and yet the bass is warm, and low, and the songwriting is surely Rock N Roll. The song arcs quickly into an anthemic drop, ripe for an audience to sing along to if they’re feeling heartbroken, or down.
“We noticed that when we played this live, there was usually a strong reaction” says drummer/bassist Adrian, “it would break the wall between us and the audience.” Now ready to release the song, singer/guitarist Lui reflects on its origins, “I wanted something everyone could sing along to at a concert. A big part of that was keeping the lyrics and melody simple, to make a song that anyone can sing.”
